Best Areas to Stay
Loreto Town is perfect for those who want to be in the middle of the action, with everything just a short walk away.
On the other hand, Loreto Bay (Nopolo) offers a more relaxed, resort-like experience with stunning natural beauty.
Loreto Town
Proximity and Convenience
This is where you’ll find everything within walking distance, restaurants, grocery stores, and some fantastic local shops.
Staying here means it is perfect for those who love to explore on foot.
Plus, Loreto Town has a charm that’s hard to resist with its quaint streets and vibrant atmosphere.
Beaches in Loreto Town
Downtown has two main public beaches in Loreto located at each end of the malecón.
The southern beach, in front of the Hotel Oasis, is particularly popular.
You’ll often see people paddleboarding, sunbathing, or just enjoying the beautiful ocean views.
Activities and Attractions
The Loreto mission, the oldest in the Californias, is a must-visit and comes with a small museum that’s worth your time.
You can also hop on a boat trip to the nearby islands, which offer some of the best snorkeling and diving spots around.
If you prefer to stay on land, consider renting a car or taking a cab to San Javier—another gem of a place.
Transportation
Getting around is pretty straightforward. Taxis are reliable and fares are posted at cab stands, so no surprises there.
Just keep in mind that cab rides can add up if you’re going back and forth a lot.
But honestly, with so much to see within walking distance, you might not need a taxi all that often.
Loreto Bay (Nopoló)
Development and Community
Now, if you’re looking for something a bit more laid-back, consider Loreto Bay in Nopoló.
This is a planned development south of Loreto Town, mostly home to residents from the US and Canada.
It’s a bit quieter and feels more like a resort community, which can be a nice change of pace.
Beaches and Amenities
The beaches here are fantastic, with clearer water and whiter sand compared to the town beaches.
You can rent paddleboards, relax by the beachside pool, or just kick back at one of the beach bars.
There’s also a small grocery store for your essentials, so you won’t have to head into town every time you need something.
Natural Attractions
One of my favorite things about Nopoló is its natural beauty. You can take long walks on the beach, explore Nopolo Rock, or even take a 40-minute boat ride to Isla Coronado, which is absolutely stunning.
Accommodation Options
In terms of places to stay, you have a range of options from home rentals to resort-style accommodations.
If you’re into paddleboarding or other water activities, many of these places offer rentals directly on the beach. It’s all about convenience here.
Transportation
Transportation to and from Nopoló is pretty straightforward. From the Loreto International Airport, you can take an authorized taxi or a collective van, which is a bit cheaper.
Once you’re settled, renting a car or using taxis is the way to go, especially if you plan to visit Loreto Town frequently.
